Find an Idaho Arrest and Verify the Court Outcome
Idaho does not operate one public search covering every arrest. Start with the county jail or arresting agency, save the official identifiers and then verify the case through Idaho iCourt.
This guide also covers warrants, police reports, bail, county-jail visits, public defenders, victim help, IDOC custody, state background checks, record corrections, expungement and Clean Slate shielding.

County booking workflow
How to search recent Idaho arrests
Identify where the arrest occurred
Search the county where the person was arrested or taken for booking—not only the county where the person lives.
Identify the arresting agency
Determine whether the arrest involved city police, a county sheriff, Idaho State Police, tribal police, campus police or a federal agency.
Look for the jail-search wording
Common labels include Inmate Roster, Jail Roster, Current Inmates, Bookings, Arrests or Who Is in Custody.
Begin with the last name
Add the first name, middle name, date of birth or booking number only when the initial result is too broad.
Allow time for intake
Identification, fingerprinting, medical screening, property inventory and data entry can delay a new booking.
Open every plausible result
Similar names can belong to different people, and the same person can have several bookings.
Save all official identifiers
Record the booking number, jail ID, arresting-agency number, court case number and IDOC number when available.
Read every charge and hold
One booking can contain several allegations, warrants, detainers or cases with different release conditions.
Continue to Idaho iCourt
Use the court case to verify what prosecutors filed and how each charge was resolved.

Identity safeguard
Verify the correct person before using the record
First and last names match
Middle name, alias or suffix is consistent
Date of birth or age matches
Arrest date matches the known event
Arresting agency matches the location
Booking number matches another source
Court case follows the same incident
IDOC or state identifier is consistent
Minimum standard: Confirm at least two independent identifiers before sending money, publishing an allegation or treating a result as belonging to a specific person.
No-result troubleshooting
Why an Idaho arrest may not appear
Intake is incomplete
Fingerprinting, identification, medical screening and data entry can delay a new result.
The wrong county was searched
Search the county of arrest, not only the person’s home county.
The name is entered differently
Try the surname alone, a former surname, alias, suffix or alternate spelling.
The person was released
Some jail rosters show only people currently held and remove released bookings.
The person was transferred
Check another county, IDOC, tribal custody or federal custody.
The arresting agency did not use the county jail
A citation, hospital hold or another detention arrangement may not produce the expected jail entry.
The state history is incomplete
An Idaho arrest may be absent from BCI when an arrest fingerprint card was not submitted.
The record is restricted
Juvenile, sealed, expunged and legally confidential records may not appear publicly.
Missing-booking call script
I am trying to confirm the custody or booking status of [full legal name], date of birth [date]. The arrest may have occurred on [date] through [agency] in [city or county]. Can you confirm whether the person is being processed, held, released, transferred or listed under another identifier?
Arrest-to-court lifecycle

Law-enforcement investigation
The arresting agency creates incident, arrest, probable-cause, evidence and supplemental records.
County jail booking
Jail staff record identity, fingerprints, property, allegations, bond information and holds.
Initial court appearance
The judge addresses rights, counsel, release, bail and the next court event.
Prosecutor review

Magistrate or district proceedings
The case can include hearings, discovery, motions, amended charges, plea negotiations and trial.
Final disposition
The matter can end through dismissal, acquittal, plea, conviction, judgment or sentence.
County or IDOC custody
A sentenced person may remain locally, enter IDOC, receive probation or be placed on parole later.
Correction or record relief
Inaccurate entries can be challenged, and eligible records may qualify for expungement or shielding.
Police and sheriff reports
Request the arrest report from the correct Idaho agency
Identify the agency that created the record
A county jail can hold the person even when city police or Idaho State Police wrote the report.
Name the exact document
Ask for the incident report, arrest report, probable-cause narrative and specifically identified supplements.
Provide narrow identifiers
Include the full name, date, location, report number, booking number and court case number.
Ask for electronic delivery
Digital delivery can reduce copying, postage and handling.
Set a maximum cost
Request approval before the agency exceeds a stated amount.
Ask for the basis of each redaction
Request an explanation when information is withheld or removed.
Copy-ready Idaho public-record request
I request an electronic copy of the releasable incident report, arrest report, probable-cause narrative and identified supplements concerning [full legal name] for the incident or arrest on [date] at [location]. Known identifiers are report number [number], booking number [number] and court case number [number]. Please provide a written estimate before processing if the charge will exceed $[amount], and identify the legal basis for withheld or redacted material.
Active investigations, victim or witness privacy, juvenile information, confidential methods, medical information and sealed records may limit public access.

Warrant verification
Check a possible Idaho warrant safely
Idaho does not provide one complete public statewide warrant search covering every county, city, tribal and federal warrant.
Identify the issuing county or court
Use a citation, notice, prior booking, known criminal case or agency information.
Read the newest entry
Do not rely on an older warrant event when later court action exists.
Check the county sheriff website
Some Idaho sheriffs publish active-warrant lists or warrant-search tools.
Confirm current status directly
Contact the issuing court or responsible agency.
Contact a lawyer when the warrant concerns you
Counsel can explain appearance, surrender, bail and hearing options.
Scam warning: Do not pay an unexpected warrant demand using gift cards, cryptocurrency, QR codes or a text-message link. Contact the court independently.

Confirm current custody and facility
A person can be transferred between intake, housing, court and another county.
Open the official county jail page
Look for Visitation, Inmate Services, Video Visits or Detention Information.
Check the visit type
Determine whether the jail offers in-person, onsite video, remote video or several options.
Create only the approved provider account
Use the vendor linked by the sheriff or jail.
Complete visitor approval
Provide the requested legal name, birth date, address and identification details.
Add minors correctly
Check birth-certificate, relationship, consent and adult-supervision requirements.

- Confirm whether mail goes to the jail or a scanning center.
- Do not send cash or original documents.
- Check photograph, card and publication limits.
Telephone and tablet
- People in custody normally initiate outgoing calls.
- Use only the county-approved provider.

A provider used by one Idaho county may not serve another. Confirm the facility before creating or funding an account.
State public defense
Request an Idaho public defender
Idaho’s State Public Defender manages indigent criminal defense across all 44 counties. A judge appoints a public defender after determining that the case and applicant qualify.
Ask for counsel at the first court appearance
Clearly state that you cannot afford to hire a private lawyer.
Complete the financial application
Apply at the courthouse in the county where the criminal charge is filed.
Provide accurate financial information
Include income, employment, assets, debts, household obligations and benefits as requested.
Wait for the judge’s appointment decision
Contacting the State Public Defender does not itself create an attorney-client relationship.
Do not discuss case facts on personal jail calls
Use the attorney communication process for confidential legal discussions.
Victim services
Get custody alerts, advocacy and compensation help
Identify the investigating agency and prosecutor
Contact the local police or sheriff advocate and the county prosecutor’s Victim/Witness Coordinator.
Provide the report and case numbers
Have the defendant’s name, booking number, police report number and court case number.
Register for custody and case notifications
Idaho’s Attorney General identifies VINE as a free and confidential notification resource.
Open VINE custody notifications
Ask for court-stage assistance
A local Victim/Witness Coordinator can explain hearings, participation, restitution and safety resources.
Check Crime Victims Compensation eligibility
Eligible benefits can include medical care, mental-health treatment, wage loss, funeral costs and related expenses.
Start an Idaho compensation claim
Meet the filing and reporting requirements
The program generally requires an application within one year and reporting to law enforcement within 72 hours unless good cause is documented.
Approved compensation can provide eligible treatment-related benefits up to $25,000 after other payment sources are exhausted.
Idaho state correctional search
Use the IDOC Resident and Client Search
IDOC search may show
- Full name and age
- IDOC number
- In-custody, probation, parole or discharged status
- Current mailing address when available
- Sentencing county
- Court case number
- Active felony sentence information
IDOC search does not provide
- Every county jail booking
- Every Idaho arrest
- A complete BCI criminal history
- A guaranteed live housing status
- Conviction details for discharged sentences
- The official judgment or court record
Search by IDOC number when known
Enter at least the first three digits of the IDOC number.
Otherwise search the last name
A partial last-name search must contain at least the first two characters.
Confirm age, status and sentencing county
Do not rely on the name alone.
Record the IDOC number and facility
These details are required for visits, mail, accounts and many information requests.
Return to iCourt for the judgment
IDOC sentence data is informational and is not the official court document.
Discharged people can remain searchable, but the convictions for sentences they completed may no longer be displayed in the IDOC result.
IDOC visitation
Apply and prepare for an Idaho state-prison visit
These rules apply to Idaho Department of Correction institutions—not county jails.
Confirm the resident’s current facility
Use the IDOC search before submitting an application.
Wait until classification is complete
New residents cannot receive visitors during reception and diagnostic processing.
Prepare documents for a minor
Requirements can include the minor application, a certified birth certificate and guardianship or power-of-attorney documentation.
Allow two to four weeks
IDOC states that visitor application and background-check processing normally takes two to four weeks.
Wait for the resident to notify you
Visiting staff notify the resident, who is responsible for informing the prospective visitor.
Schedule through the required provider
Several facilities require ICSolutions registration and advance scheduling.
Recheck visiting status before traveling
Weather, emergencies, housing changes and security operations can affect visits.
IDOC visitor-property rules
No paper money in visiting rooms
Coins must be in a clear plastic bag
Debit or credit cards may be allowed for vending
No outside food, gum or candy
No phones or telecommunication equipment
No photographs or electronic picture viewers
No oils, can openers or sunglasses

Idaho statewide criminal history
Choose the correct Idaho BCI background check
A county sheriff or city police department can search only its local records for the public. Idaho State Police BCI is the agency authorized to conduct a statewide Idaho criminal-history check.
Name-based check
- Current BCI fee: $20.
- Searches the Idaho Central Repository.
- Results are not notarized.
- Alias names and false birth dates can reduce accuracy.
- A current signed waiver improves disclosure of older arrests without dispositions.
- Requests are not accepted by email.
Fingerprint-based check
- Current BCI fee: $25.
- Uses positive fingerprint identification.
- A notarized Idaho result can be requested.
- The fingerprint card must be complete and current.
- Requests are hand-delivered or mailed—not emailed.
- Additional fingerprinting charges can apply.

Record correction
Correct an inaccurate Idaho criminal-history entry
Obtain your fingerprint-based Idaho record
Fingerprints establish that the record belongs to you.
Mark the exact disputed information
Identify the wrong arrest, name, date, charge or disposition.
Find the originating source
Compare BCI with the arresting-agency report and county court record.
Obtain supporting documents
Use an agency correction, dismissal order, acquittal, amended judgment or other official proof.
Submit the challenge information to BCI
Clearly explain what is inaccurate and what the record should show.
Recheck the county and court systems
A BCI correction may not automatically update a jail website, court index or private database.
Idaho State Police states that the fingerprint-based check used to challenge the accuracy of a person’s record is processed without a BCI charge.
A dismissed charge remains on an Idaho criminal-history record with the dismissal noted unless a legal expungement or other qualifying action removes it.
BCI arrest expungement
Expunge a qualifying Idaho arrest with no conviction
Idaho Code section 67-3004(10) provides a BCI expungement route for certain arrests or criminal summonses that did not result in a conviction.
Situations that may qualify
No indictment or information was filed within one year
The person was acquitted of every offense from the arrest
Every charge arising from the arrest was dismissed
The person can provide official supporting records
Obtain the Idaho criminal-history record
Identify the exact arrest event and transaction information.
Obtain the final court disposition
Request the dismissal or acquittal documents from the county clerk.
Handle a no-charge arrest
Obtain records showing that no indictment or information was filed within one year.
Attach agency or court proof
BCI requires records demonstrating that the statutory condition is satisfied.
Submit the written request to BCI
Follow the current form instructions and keep a full copy.
Recheck public systems
Confirm whether the county jail, court and private databases require separate follow-up.
This BCI process is narrower than general record sealing. It does not automatically remove every court document, article, screenshot or privately retained copy.
Clean Slate Act
Shield an eligible Idaho conviction from public disclosure
Clean Slate shielding
- At least five years must pass after completing the full sentence.
- Probation and parole must be complete.
- Ordered fines and restitution must be completed.
- Only one offense or one connected set from a single incident may be shielded.
- The petition is filed with the court.
What shielding does not do
- It does not destroy the underlying records.
- It does not guarantee removal from news archives.
- It does not erase privately retained copies.
- It does not make every offense eligible.
- It does not occur merely because five years passed.
Obtain the complete case record
Save the case number, judgment, sentence and proof of completion.
Calculate the five-year period
Begin after completion of the entire sentence—not simply the conviction date.
Confirm all obligations are complete
Include probation, parole, fines and restitution.
Complete the petition
List the eligible offense or connected set of offenses from the same incident.
File with the correct county court
Use the courthouse where the case was filed.
Attend a hearing when ordered
Bring proof of sentence completion and eligibility.
Keep certified copies of the order
Use the order when correcting public or private background reports.
Juvenile expungement uses a separate Idaho process. Adult BCI expungement and Clean Slate shielding also serve different purposes and have different eligibility rules.
