What the fields in a Fort Bend jail result mean
| Field | What it identifies | What it does not prove | Best next action |
|---|---|---|---|
| P number | The person’s inmate identifier in the Fort Bend detention system. | It does not explain the final court disposition. | Save it for custody, bond, visit, mail and account questions. |
| Booking number | A particular intake or custody episode. | It does not mean every allegation became a filed charge. | Use it to separate multiple bookings involving the same person. |
| Booking date | When jail processing began or was entered. | It may not equal the incident or arrest time. | Compare it with the report and known timeline. |
| Arresting agency | The Sheriff, police department, constable or other agency responsible for the arrest. | That agency controls the court case. | Request the police narrative from this agency. |
| Charge description | The alleged offense entered during arrest or intake. | It does not prove guilt or the final filed charge. | Compare it with the complaint, information or indictment. |
| Bond amount | An amount currently associated with a charge or case. | Paying one bond clears every charge, warrant or hold. | Confirm all entries with the Bonding Office. |
| Court or case number | A court matter connected with the booking when available. | The docket is complete or final. | Search the exact number in Odyssey Public Access. |
| Housing or location | The present detention placement when publicly displayed. | The placement will remain unchanged. | Recheck before traveling, mailing or scheduling. |
| Release information | That custody ended or release processing began. | Release does not mean dismissal or acquittal. | Search the related criminal case. |
| Photograph | An image associated with booking when made publicly available. | Visual similarity alone does not establish identity or guilt. | Confirm the P number, date of birth and case identifiers. |

How to search Fort Bend County criminal court records
Fort Bend County’s Odyssey Public Access portal combines public criminal case searching for the County Clerk and District Clerk systems. The portal does not require a public login for ordinary public access.
Is the case a felony or misdemeanor?
Felony criminal records are maintained by the District Clerk for the District Courts. Use this route for felony complaints, indictments, judgments, sentences and felony-certified copies.
County Courts at Law handle Class A and B misdemeanors such as many DWI, theft, assault and drug-possession cases, plus certain Class C appeals.
Fine-only Class C matters may remain with a municipal or Justice of the Peace court unless appealed or connected with a higher-level criminal case.
| Clue in the record | Likely route | What to request |
|---|---|---|
| Felony level or District Court | District Clerk | Indictment, judgment, sentence, dismissal or certified disposition. |
| Class A or B misdemeanor | County Clerk | Information, complaint, judgment, dismissal or certified disposition. |
| Unfiled misdemeanor arrest | County Clerk unfiled-case search | Check whether the prosecutor has filed the case or it remains unfiled. |
| Municipal citation or Class C | Named municipal or Justice Court | Citation record, judgment, dismissal or letter of disposition. |
| Only a jail charge appears | Wait for filing, then search Odyssey | Do not assume the booking description is the final charge. |

When the Fort Bend searches are not enough
County searches answer Fort Bend-specific questions. The Texas Department of Public Safety maintains statewide computerized criminal-history information submitted by Texas criminal-justice agencies.
Texas DPS offers a public conviction-name search. Current search credits cost $1 each, and the user is responsible for verifying that a possible record belongs to the correct person.
A fingerprint-based personal review is the stronger method for confirming the Texas record connected to your fingerprints.
Obtain a certified disposition from the court when a DPS record does not show the correct dismissal, judgment or outcome.
How to correct an inaccurate Fort Bend arrest record
Determine whether the error appears in the Sheriff report, jail booking, court case, DPS history or private background report.
Obtain the correct booking identifiers, court order, dismissal, judgment or certified disposition.
Ask the government office that created the incorrect entry to review and correct its source record.
| Error | First office | Helpful proof |
|---|---|---|
| Wrong identity or incident detail in Sheriff report | Sheriff Records Division | Report number, identification and written explanation. |
| Incorrect P number, name or booking information | Fort Bend Detention or Records Division | P number, booking number and identity documents. |
| Missing dismissal or incorrect felony disposition | District Clerk | District Court case number and signed order. |
| Missing misdemeanor disposition | County Clerk Courts Division | County Court case number and certified disposition. |
| Incorrect Texas DPS criminal history | Texas DPS Crime Records error-resolution process | Fingerprint review and certified court documentation. |
| Outdated private background report | The screening company or data broker | Certified disposition, expunction order or nondisclosure order. |
Expunction and nondisclosure are different remedies
Some arrests involving no filed charge, dismissal, acquittal, pardon or another qualifying outcome may be eligible for expunction.
Certain completed cases, including some deferred-adjudication matters and other qualifying offenses, may be eligible for nondisclosure.
A correction addresses wrong data. It is not a substitute for an expunction or nondisclosure when the record accurately reports the event.

Fort Bend County arrest-record questions
1. How do I search Fort Bend County arrest records?
Start with the official Jail Public Information Inquiry when the arrest was recent or the person may remain in custody. Search by a full or partial name, open the detail page and save the P number, booking details, agency, charges and bonds. Search the related criminal case in Odyssey Public Access.
2. How long does a booking take to appear?
Fort Bend County advises that processing takes approximately four hours from the booking time before the Bonding Office can confirm information. Identification, fingerprints, medical screening and charge entry can cause additional delay.
3. Where do I request a Sheriff arrest report?
Submit a written request to the Sheriff Records Division at 1410 Richmond Parkway, Richmond, Texas 77469. You may email fbcsorecords@fortbendcountytx.gov, fax 832-471-2472 or call 281-341-4625 with procedural questions.
4. Does the jail inquiry include every past arrest?
No. It is primarily a current-custody and booking-information tool. For an older arrest, request the report from the arresting agency and search the felony or misdemeanor court case.
5. How do I search a Fort Bend felony?
Open Odyssey Public Access, select Criminal Case Records and search by case number or defendant. Felony records are maintained by the District Clerk. Review the register of actions and order a certified disposition when formal proof is needed.
6. How do I search a misdemeanor?
Use the same Odyssey criminal-search portal. Class A and B misdemeanor records are maintained by the County Clerk. The County Clerk also provides a separate search for certain unfiled misdemeanor matters from October 2, 2017 forward.
7. How much do criminal court copies cost?
District Clerk electronic noncertified copies cost $1 for the first 10 pages and $0.10 for each additional page. Certification adds $5, and online District Clerk E-Certify purchases add a $6 service fee. County Clerk certified copies cost $1 per page plus $5 per document certification.
8. What does a red W mean in the court portal?
The official portal help page states that a red W means an active warrant is associated with the case. Confirm current status with the court because warrants can be recalled or cleared and similar names can produce mistakes.
9. How do jail visits work?
Visits are conducted by video and must be scheduled at least 24 hours ahead. On-site visits are offered Sunday through Friday. Remote visits are currently listed from 8:00 a.m. through 9:00 p.m. daily at $6 per visit. Confirm current availability and rules before paying.
10. Can a Fort Bend arrest be expunged or sealed?
Some Texas arrests qualify for expunction under Chapter 55A, while certain other cases may qualify for nondisclosure. Obtain the complete court disposition and Texas criminal history before deciding which remedy may apply.
Government portals, fees, hours, vendor prices and procedures can change. Recheck the linked official page before submitting money, mailing documents, scheduling a visit or traveling to an office.
