Macomb County arrest information is split across four systems

SHERIFF JAILTRACKER Is the person in custody?

Use the live inmate locator for the current jail record, inmate number and charge information.

Best first stop after a recent booking.
ARRESTING AGENCY What did officers report?

The Sheriff Records Office maintains Sheriff’s reports. Municipal police reports remain with the department that created them.

Jail custody does not transfer report ownership.
DISTRICT COURT Misdemeanor or early felony stage?

District courts handle ordinary misdemeanors plus felony arraignment, bond, probable cause conference and preliminary examination.

Felony cases can later move to Circuit Court.
16TH CIRCUIT COURT Felony case after bindover?

Use the official sentence or disposition for proof.
Best sequence: JailTracker → arresting agency report → district court → Circuit Court if bound over → final disposition → ICHAT only when statewide Michigan history is needed.

Michigan Clean Slate

Check automatic set aside before filing an expungement application

Michigan uses the legal term set aside; many people call it expungement. A set-aside conviction is removed from ordinary public criminal-history access but can remain available to authorized government users.

Automatic Clean Slate

No application or court filing is required when an eligible conviction meets the automatic-set-aside rules.

Application-based set aside

Used when a conviction is not automatically cleared but may still qualify under Michigan’s application process.

Automatic set-aside framework

Michigan Clean Slate automatic waiting periods
Conviction type Automatic maximum Waiting period
Misdemeanor punishable by less than 92 days No numerical limit 7 years from sentence.
Misdemeanor punishable by 93 days or more Up to 4 7 years.
Felony Up to 2 10 years from sentencing or completion of MDOC imprisonment, whichever is later.
Automatic clearing does not apply to every offense. Michigan excludes categories such as certain assaultive, serious, dishonesty, long-maximum, minor/vulnerable-victim, human-trafficking, OWI and injury/death traffic offenses from automatic set aside.
Check ICHAT first Confirm whether the conviction is still publicly visible. Check the public record
Check the Macomb court file Confirm the exact conviction, sentence and completion dates.
If it should have been automatic but remains public, contact MSP Michigan publishes MSP-CRD-CSAAUTOMATIC@michigan.gov for automatic-set-aside questions.
If automatic relief does not apply, review application eligibility Michigan currently permits applications involving up to three felonies and unlimited misdemeanors, subject to exclusions and additional limits.
Apply in the court where the conviction occurred Separate applications are needed when convictions are spread across different courts.
Get the fingerprint card Michigan residents generally use the RI-008 applicant fingerprint card through a law-enforcement agency.
Obtain certified court proof MSP requires a certified judgment of sentence, probation order or register of actions.
Pay the current $50 MSP processing fee Juvenile set-aside applications do not use that processing fee.
Send the required packet to MSP Michigan State Police, CJIC, P.O. Box 30266, Lansing, MI 48909-7766.
Send required copies to the Attorney General and prosecutor Follow the current MC 227 instructions for service.
Allow substantial processing time MSP currently says to allow about eight weeks for its criminal-history processing; Michigan Attorney General guidance says the entire application process can take up to eight months.
Attend the Macomb court hearing if scheduled The convicting court makes the final decision on an application-based set aside.

Application waiting periods

Multiple felonies

Generally 7 years from the latest applicable sentencing, probation, parole or imprisonment event.

One felony / serious misdemeanor

Generally 5 years from the latest applicable completion event.

Most other misdemeanors

Generally 3 years from the latest applicable sentencing, probation or imprisonment event.

Michigan also permits one qualifying first-time OWI conviction to be set aside after five years when the offense did not involve injury or death.
