Start with the correct record

Which DuPage County record answers your question?

DUPAGE SHERIFF Is the person held now?

Use the jail result for booking identity, custody, listed charges, facility and release-related information.

Best first stop for a recent arrest.
ARRESTING AGENCY What did officers report?

Request the incident report, arrest report, probable-cause narrative or releasable supplements.

The Sheriff may not own a municipal police report.
CIRCUIT COURT CLERK What charge was filed?

Review the complaint, docket entries, court dates, orders and final disposition.

The court charge can differ from the booking charge.
ILLINOIS STATE POLICE What is on my state record?

Use fingerprint-based Access and Review to inspect and challenge your Illinois criminal history.

Not a public search for another person’s complete history.
Most reliable order: Find the booking, save the official identifiers, confirm the arresting agency, search the court case and request only the missing document.

Official inmate search

How to search a current DuPage County jail booking

Open the Sheriff’s official Inmate Search Use the DuPage County Sheriff system rather than a sponsored people-search page. Open DuPage County Inmate Search
Begin with the legal last name A surname-first search avoids missing a result because of a middle name, suffix, hyphen or spelling variation.
Add the first name gradually Add more information only when the surname produces too many possible results.
Allow time for a new booking Identification, fingerprinting, medical screening, property inventory and data entry can delay publication.
Open every plausible match Compare the date of birth or age, booking date, arresting agency and official identification number.
Separate different custody events The same person may have more than one arrest or booking. Match the date and agency to the event being researched.
Read every charge and hold A booking may include several allegations, warrants or detainers that affect release.
Save the identifiers Record the booking number, inmate or IR number, arresting agency, report number and court case number when available.
Continue to the Circuit Court Clerk Use the court docket to determine the formal filed charge, next hearing and disposition. Search the DuPage criminal docket
Booking result decoder

What each DuPage County booking field means

Jail information, limitations and the correct next action
Field What it identifies What it does not prove Best next action
Booking number A particular DuPage jail intake or custody episode. The final court charge or outcome. Use it when contacting Corrections or Records.
Inmate or IR number The person in the DuPage correctional system. Guilt, prosecution or conviction. Use it for mail, calls and deposits.
Arrest date The date law enforcement initiated custody. When the alleged conduct occurred. Compare it with the incident report.
Booking date When correctional intake was recorded. When a prosecutor filed the case. Use it to separate multiple bookings.
Arresting agency The police, sheriff or other agency responsible for the arrest. The Sheriff created the incident report. Request the narrative from this agency.
Booking charge The allegation received during arrest or intake. The charge ultimately filed by the State’s Attorney. Read the court complaint and docket.
Case number A related DuPage criminal or traffic court matter. That every listed booking count belongs to one case. Search each case number separately.
Pretrial status Release, detention or court-ordered conditions. That the status cannot change after another hearing. Read the newest court order.
Hold or detainer Another court or agency may control release. The DuPage case is the only custody reason. Ask which agency owns the hold.
Release date When that custody episode ended. Dismissal, acquittal or innocence. Find the final court disposition.
Booking photograph An image created during jail processing. Identity by itself, guilt or conviction. Match stronger identifiers.
Fast-changing information: Housing, release status, holds and court conditions can change after judicial review, transfer, classification or completion of release processing.
Identity safeguard

Verify the right person before relying on the record

Full first and last name are consistent
Middle name, alias or suffix is consistent
Birth date or age is consistent
Arrest and booking dates match the known event
Arresting agency matches the location
Booking or case number matches another record
Court filing follows the same incident
Physical descriptors are reasonably consistent
Minimum standard: Confirm at least two independent identifiers before sending money, publishing an accusation, contacting an employer or treating a result as belonging to a particular person.
Same name, different birth date Treat the records as different people unless the maintaining agency confirms a clerical error.
Similar mugshot, different number The official number and birth date are more reliable than visual resemblance.
Same person, several bookings Match the exact arrest date, agency, incident and court case.
Unfamiliar address An address may be old, incomplete or protected. Never use it as the only identity match.

Illinois pretrial release

How release and detention work without cash bail

Illinois ended cash bail for new pretrial release decisions on September 18, 2023. The court now decides whether a person is released with conditions or detained under the Pretrial Fairness Act.
Release without detention

The person may be released after processing with mandatory and case-specific conditions.

Pretrial supervision

The court may require reporting, monitoring, testing, curfew or other conditions.

Detention petition

The State may request detention in a qualifying case and must follow the statutory hearing process.

Detention order

A judge may order detention after the required findings and hearing.

Confirm every active case and hold Another county, court, state or federal agency may separately control custody.
Find the initial appearance or pretrial order Read the newest Circuit Clerk docket entry.
Identify all release conditions Conditions can include no contact, location restrictions, reporting, electronic monitoring or surrender of weapons.
Check for a detention petition A detention request requires a court hearing and judicial decision.
Do not confuse old financial entries with current pretrial release Older cases, fines, restitution, purge amounts or another jurisdiction can involve money without functioning as Illinois cash bail.
Confirm release directly with Corrections Court action must reach the jail and all holds must be cleared before release.
Allow processing time Staff must confirm the order, complete records, return property and arrange discharge.
Release-status call script

Access and Review is personal. It lets an individual inspect and challenge that individual’s fingerprint-supported Illinois criminal history. It is not a public name-search tool for another person.
Choose a fingerprint location Use an Illinois law-enforcement agency, correctional facility or licensed Live Scan vendor that handles Access and Review.
Ask specifically for Access and Review Do not request the wrong employment or licensing fingerprint service.
Provide fingerprints and identifying information The provider sends the submission to Illinois State Police.
Select the delivery address Results can be sent to the person’s address or the participating facility.
Review every arrest and disposition Compare the transcript with DuPage court records and certified dispositions.
Use the included Record Challenge form Submit a challenge when an arrest, identity or disposition is inaccurate or incomplete.
ISP processing fee: Illinois State Police does not charge to process Access and Review or a Record Challenge. The fingerprint provider may charge for fingerprint collection and transmission.
When results are delivered to a law-enforcement or correctional facility, the individual should retrieve them promptly. ISP guidance states that an unclaimed transcript may be destroyed 45 days after notification.

Submit the ISP Record Challenge Explain the exact error and attach the strongest available proof.
Recheck every connected system Correcting one agency’s record may not automatically change another agency or private database.

Why can’t I find a recent DuPage booking?

The person may still be completing intake, may have been released or transferred, may be listed under another spelling or may have been booked in a different county.

How do I request a DuPage Sheriff arrest report?

Contact the Sheriff Records Division when a Sheriff’s deputy created the report. Provide the report number, date, location, full name and booking or case number.

How much do DuPage court copies cost?

The current rates are $2 for page one, $0.50 per page for pages 2 through 20, $0.25 for later pages and $6 to certify a document.

How do I confirm a DuPage warrant?

Read the newest Circuit Clerk docket entries and then confirm live status with the issuing court or DuPage Sheriff Warrants Division.

Can I review my Illinois record for free?

Illinois State Police does not charge to process Access and Review or a Record Challenge, although a fingerprint provider may charge its own service fee.

Can a DuPage County arrest record be expunged?

Some arrests and dispositions qualify. Review Illinois eligibility, complete the approved forms and file in DuPage County. Sealing may be available when expungement is not.
