Official inmate inquiry

How to search the Galveston County Jail roster

Open the official P2C Inmate Inquiry Confirm that the address begins with the Galveston County government P2C domain. Open Galveston County Inmate Inquiry
Start with the last name Leave the first-name field blank for the first search to avoid excluding spelling variations or shortened names.
Add the first name only when needed Use it when a common surname produces too many results.
Review the complete inmate list The public table can show the name, race, sex, age, primary charge, arrest date and booking agency.
Use the filter tool Filter the displayed list when the search produces several possible people.
Open every plausible match Do not assume the first matching name belongs to the person being researched.
Match the age and arrest date Use both fields to separate people with identical or similar names.
Record the booking agency This identifies the department likely to maintain the arrest or incident report.
Read the primary charge as an allegation Do not treat it as the final filed or proven offense.
Continue to the Odyssey court portal Search the related criminal case and locate the disposition. Open Galveston County Odyssey Portal
Search limitation: The public P2C page is designed primarily for current inmate inquiry. An older booking that no longer appears may require a written Sheriff records request.
Result decoder

What each Galveston County inmate-search field means

Public inmate fields, limitations and next actions
Field What it identifies What it does not prove Best next action
Name The name entered or verified during booking. That every same-name result belongs to one person. Compare age, arrest date and booking agency.
Age The displayed age associated with the inmate. An exact date of birth. Use it with another independent identifier.
Race and sex Descriptors contained in the jail system. Identity without stronger matching details. Do not rely on descriptors alone.
Primary charge The main allegation displayed in the inmate list. The final filed charge or court outcome. Search every related court case.
Arrest date The date associated with the arrest event. When the alleged conduct occurred or charges were filed. Use it to locate the correct report and case.
Booking agency The agency connected to the jail admission. The Sheriff investigated the underlying incident. Confirm the arresting agency before requesting reports.
Bond or fine A financial release requirement when displayed. Payment clears every charge or outside hold. Confirm every case and detainer before paying.
Release status A custody or release-processing entry. Dismissal, acquittal or innocence. Read the court disposition.
Identity safeguard

Verify the correct person before relying on an arrest result

Full first and last name are consistent
Middle name, suffix or alias is consistent
Age is consistent with the person
Arrest date matches the known event
Booking agency matches the location
Court case follows the same incident
Charge timeline matches the arrest
A second official source confirms the match
Minimum standard: Match at least two independent identifiers before sending money, publishing an allegation, contacting an employer or treating the result as belonging to a particular person.
Same name but different age Treat the results as different people unless the Sheriff confirms a data error.
Same name and age but different arrest date The records may be separate custody events. Match the agency and court case.
Primary charge is different Review every booking and court case instead of merging separate arrests.
DPS produces several candidates Use fingerprint identification for a reliable personal-history match.
Troubleshooting

No Galveston County inmate result? Check these causes

Booking is incomplete Paperwork review, questioning, mugshots and fingerprints may still be in progress.
Arrest paperwork has an error The Sheriff returns incomplete or incorrect paperwork to the arresting officer for correction.
The name is entered differently Search the surname alone and test a legal, maiden or hyphenated name.
The person was released The public inmate list may no longer display the older booking.
The person was transferred Check another county, the Texas Department of Criminal Justice or federal custody.
The arrest occurred outside Galveston County Search the county where the person was physically booked.
The court case has not appeared Prosecutor review or court data entry may still be pending.
The record is restricted Juvenile, sealed, expunged and legally confidential records may not be public.
Missing-booking call script
I am trying to confirm the custody or booking status of [full legal name], date of birth or age [information]. The arrest may have occurred on [date] through [agency]. Can you confirm whether the person is still being booked, currently held, released, transferred or listed under another name?
Booking and release

What happens inside the Galveston County Jail?

Booking process

  1. Jail staff inspect the arrest paperwork for completeness.
  2. Errors or missing information are returned to the arresting officer.
  3. Complete paperwork places the person in the booking queue.
  4. Staff ask a detailed series of booking questions.
  5. Mugshots and fingerprints are normally completed.
  6. A person who will not cooperate may be moved to the back of the queue.

Release process

  1. After booking, the person receives two free two-minute calls.
  2. Confirm every bond, fine, warrant and hold.
  3. Pay the full required amount or use a private bondsman.
  4. The Sheriff cannot recommend a particular bondsman.
  5. The release queue begins only after all payment and paperwork arrive.
  6. Staff recheck paperwork and identity before physical release.
Why release takes time: Payment alone does not cause immediate exit. Jail staff must receive and verify all paperwork, confirm the person, clear applicable cases and complete the release process.

Hearings and case preparation The case may include counsel appointment, discovery, bond review, motions, plea negotiations and trial settings.
