Arrest does not mean conviction. A jail charge is the allegation associated with booking. Prosecutors can amend or decline charges, and courts can dismiss charges or find a defendant not guilty.

JAIL INMATE LIST
Is the person in custody?
Search current inmates by status, first name or last name and sort by booking or release date.
Best starting point for a recent Boone County booking.
SHERIFF RECORDS
What did deputies report?
Request the arrest, incident or offense documentation from the agency that created it.
Jail custody and police-report ownership are different.
DISTRICT COURT
Misdemeanor or new felony?
District Court handles misdemeanors, arraignments and felony preliminary hearings.
A felony can later move to Circuit Court.
CIRCUIT COURT
Was a felony indicted?
Circuit Criminal handles felony indictments, capital offenses and probation/parole violations.
Use the Circuit disposition for a felony outcome.
KSP / AOC
Need statewide history?
KSP and Kentucky Court of Justice provide broader criminal-history products for authorized purposes.
These are not substitutes for the underlying court file.
Fastest reliable workflow: search jail → save the booking identity → identify every court case → read the latest docket → request the police report only when you need the incident narrative → verify the final disposition.

Why a Boone County arrest may not appear in the jail list
Booking is still being processed
Identification, fingerprinting, medical intake and data entry may not be complete yet.
The person received a citation or summons
A court case can exist even when the person was not held in Boone County Jail.
The person was released
The live list is designed around jail status; continue to the court record for a historical case.
The arrest was made elsewhere
Search the detention facility in the county where the person was actually booked.
The name differs
Search the surname alone and try prior names, aliases, hyphens and suffix variants.
The case exists but not the booking
A summons, indictment or warrant can create a criminal court record without a current jail entry.
The felony moved to Circuit Court
A District felony entry can later lead to a Circuit CR case.
The record is restricted
Juvenile, expunged and legally protected records may be unavailable publicly.
Missing-booking call script
I am trying to confirm the custody status of [full legal name], date of birth or age [information]. The arrest may have occurred on [date] through [agency]. Can you confirm whether the person is being processed, currently held, released, transferred or listed under another booking identifier?

Video arraignment
Boone’s local court schedule publishes a jail video-arraignment docket at 8:30 a.m. Monday through Friday.
District Court case

Preliminary hearing
District Court determines whether sufficient probable cause exists for a felony to continue.
Grand jury / indictment
A felony that continues may be presented for indictment and prosecuted in Circuit Court.
Circuit criminal case
Felony arraignment, motions, plea, trial, judgment and sentencing occur in Circuit Court.
Final disposition
Each count may end by dismissal, acquittal, plea, conviction or another court order.
Correction or expungement
An inaccurate record should be corrected at its source; eligible accurate records may qualify for expungement.

Check the acknowledgement box
Select the required checkbox and continue.
Search the case number when known
This is safer than a common-name search.
Otherwise search the defendant’s name
Compare Boone County, birth information and the arrest date.
Look for District case codes

Search for a CR case if the felony continued
A Circuit criminal case may contain the indictment and final felony result.

Check warrant, bond, appearance, dismissal, plea, judgment and sentencing events.
Verify every count separately
One charge can be dismissed while another results in a conviction.
Official court documents
Get the actual Boone County disposition or case record
Kentucky court case records can include citations, pleadings, motions, orders, reports, dockets, evidence, video and transcripts. Requests begin with the Circuit Court Clerk that maintains the case.
Find the case number first
Use Guest CourtNet or call the Boone clerk.
Identify the exact document
Request the dismissal order, final disposition, judgment, sentence or another specifically named item.
For records up to 15 years old, start locally
Boone’s clerk directs requesters to window 3 inside the Justice Center.
For records 15–35 years old, use the State Records Center
A case number is required.
For records 36+ years old, use Kentucky Department for Libraries and Archives
For cases filed on or after January 1, 1978, the case number is required.
Ask whether certification is required
A certified disposition is stronger than a screenshot when a licensing agency, attorney or other recipient needs formal proof.
Copy-ready disposition request
I need an [ordinary/certified] copy of the final disposition, judgment and sentence in Commonwealth of Kentucky v. [defendant], Boone County case number [number]. Please advise the current copy/certification charge and whether the record can be provided electronically or by mail.

Boone County’s published warrant-surrender procedure
Full bond amount available
Boone’s District Criminal page instructs a person turning themselves in on an active warrant with the full bond amount to report to Boone County Jail for processing and a new court date.
Full bond amount not available
The clerk instructs the person to report to Boone County Jail Monday–Friday before 5:00 a.m. to be added to the 8:30 a.m. Video Arraignment Docket.
An active warrant for unpaid fines generally requires the amount due to be paid in full for recall. Boone’s clerk states that someone unable to pay the full amount may report to the jail for the applicable jail-credit process.
Confirm before surrendering. Case status can change. Verify the warrant with the court or Sheriff, and speak with a defense attorney when the warrant concerns you.
Scam warning: Do not pay an unexpected warrant demand with gift cards, cryptocurrency or a payment link sent by text. Independently call the Clerk, Sheriff or Jail.
Bail and bond
Understand Boone County’s six published bond types
Kentucky does not use commercial bail bondsmen. Do not search for or pay a commercial “bail bonds” company for a Kentucky state-court bond.
Boone County Circuit Clerk bond guide
| Bond type |
How it works |
Important consequence |
| Personal Recognizance / OR |
Signature-based release without a cash deposit. |
Defendant must appear at every scheduled court date. |
| Unsecured |
Signature bond with a stated dollar amount. |
Defendant can become liable for the amount after failure to appear. |
| Surety |
A third party posts for the defendant. |
After case resolution, the judge orders release; the surety needs photo ID and bond receipt to recover funds. |
| Cash |
Full bail amount is paid. |
After the case, the judge can order the amount applied to costs/fines and the remainder refunded to the defendant. |
| Partially Secured / 10% |
The defendant posts 10% of the total amount. |
After the case, the judge directs application/refund; if guilty, 10% of the amount posted, minimum $5, goes to the Clerk. |
| Property |
Kentucky real property is pledged instead of cash. |
Equity above liens/exemptions must be twice the bond amount; forfeiture can lead to foreclosure. |
Find every open case and warrant
One bond payment may not resolve another hold.
Read the newest court order
The judge may change the amount or bond type.
Call the Boone County Jail before paying
The Clerk directs bond posting questions to the jail.
Call 859-334-2143
Confirm the exact bond type
Ask whether it is OR, unsecured, surety, cash, 10% or property.
Ask whether another hold blocks release
Verify every Boone County and outside-jurisdiction hold.
Keep the receipt
A surety seeking return of money will need the bond receipt and photo ID.
Boone’s Clerk publishes a $25 bond filing fee added to fees/fines ordered on the case. Bond releases cannot be processed by Bookkeeping after 3:30 p.m.
Bond-verification script
I am calling about [full name], booking/inmate number [number] and case number [number]. Please confirm every active case or hold, the current bond type and amount, the amount actually required for release, accepted payment procedure and whether any additional condition prevents immediate release.
Kentucky Pretrial Services
What happens before the judge decides release
24/7 statewide service
Kentucky Pretrial Services operates in all 120 counties.
Assessment after arrest
Pretrial specialists interview and assess people arrested on bailable offenses, generally within 24 hours.
Judge receives findings
If pre-arraignment release does not occur, assessment information is supplied to the judge for the release decision.
Kentucky abolished commercial bail bonding in 1976. The release decision comes through the court and Kentucky’s pretrial process—not a commercial bondsman.
Boone’s District Criminal page also states that first-time misdemeanor offenders may be eligible for Misdemeanor Diversion after referral by the judge. Boone Pretrial questions:

Wear non-revealing, facility-appropriate clothing
Do not bring weapons or contraband

Do not assume an ordinary visit is privileged
Until confidential status is approved, the session can be monitored or recorded under provider/facility rules.
Mail, photos and property
Verify the current Boone County Jail mail channel before sending items
Jail mail processors, publisher rules and vendor addresses can change. Use the live Boone County Jail record and Booking Office rather than copying an old mailing address from an inmate-directory site.
Check current custody first
Confirm the person has not been released or transferred.
Record the exact booked name and inmate identifier
Use the name maintained by the jail.
Ask whether ordinary mail is scanned or delivered physically
This determines which address and content rules apply.
Ask about photograph limits
Confirm quantity, size, content restrictions and whether physical photos are accepted.
Ask about books and magazines

Keep legal mail separate
Attorneys should verify the legal-mail address and marking procedure directly with the jail.

Defense counsel
How to get a Boone County public defender
After arrest: provide basic identity information, ask for a lawyer and exercise the right to remain silent about the alleged offense until counsel is available.
Ask for appointed counsel at the first court appearance
Kentucky Department of Public Advocacy states that a person who cannot afford counsel should ask the judge to appoint a public defender.
Ask before accepting a case offer

Complete the eligibility process
The court determines whether the defendant qualifies as needy/indigent.

Kentucky criminal history
Order the right Kentucky State Police background check
Kentucky’s KSP name-based background check is different from a Boone County arrest search. It is intended for broader Kentucky criminal-history purposes and does not replace the local court record.
Name-based Kentucky request
Current KSP charge: $20 by check or money order payable to the Kentucky State Treasurer.
Another adult
The general public can obtain an adult criminal history on another person with that person’s permission.
Your own record
KSP provides a personal-review process when you need to inspect your own Kentucky criminal history.
Complete every required identity field
Use full legal names and accurate birth information.
Obtain consent when requesting another adult’s history
The public cannot simply run an unrestricted KSP criminal-history search on anyone without the required permission.
Prepare the $20 payment
Follow the form instructions for a check or money order payable to the Kentucky State Treasurer.
Use fingerprints for the personal-review procedure when required
KSP’s personal criminal-history review uses the form and fingerprint process specified by the agency.
Mail or use the available walk-in process

Identify which record is wrong
Compare jail, Sheriff’s report, District/Circuit court record, KSP history and AOC report.
Save the exact disputed entry
Record the booking number, report number, case number and incorrect field.
Obtain authoritative proof
Use a certified dismissal, amended order, judgment or corrected agency record.
Correct the originating office first
Sheriff error → Sheriff Records. Court error → Boone Circuit Clerk/court. KSP history issue → follow KSP review instructions.
Send the corrected disposition downstream
Ask how the updated court or arrest information will be transmitted to KSP or another repository.
Recheck after processing
Updates across separate government databases are not necessarily instantaneous.
Correction is different from expungement. Correct a record when it is factually wrong. Use expungement when the accurate record legally qualifies to be removed from ordinary public state records.
Kentucky expungement
Determine whether a Boone County arrest or conviction can be expunged
Check automatic expungement before paying for anything. Kentucky automatically expunges qualifying cases dismissed with prejudice or ending in acquittal on or after July 15, 2020 after 30 days, excluding traffic cases.
Post-July 15, 2020 dismissal/acquittal
Qualifying dismissal with prejudice or acquittal is automatically expunged after 30 days. No defendant action is required unless an exception applies.
Eligible misdemeanor conviction
Boone’s clerk publishes a five-year timing rule from disposition for its qualifying guilty-plea expungement process.
Eligible Class D felony
Many qualifying Class D felonies can be considered five years after completion of sentence or successful probation/parole, whichever is later.
Expungement certification
Check whether the case requires a certification
Do not order one for a process that does not require it.
Create the Kentucky Courts certification account
An email address is required for the online process.
Complete the certification request
Enter accurate identifying and criminal-record information.
Pay the current $40 certification fee
Major credit/debit cards are accepted online.
Wait for the completion notice
The online status can move through Processing, Sent to KSP and Complete.
Download the packet when complete
File it before the certification expires.
Remember the 30-day certification expiration
Do not order the packet months before you are ready to file.

Boone County expungement routes
Use the route that matches the disposition
| Record type |
Local / statewide rule |
Form / fee information |
| Automatic dismissal/acquittal |
Qualifying cases on/after July 15, 2020 automatically expunged after 30 days, excluding traffic. |
No defendant action ordinarily required. |
| Dismissal/acquittal requiring petition |
Older/nonautomatic situations can require a court filing; Boone’s local instructions should be followed. |
AOC-497.2 is used for applicable acquittal/dismissal/failure-to-indict matters; Boone lists no filing fee for that route. |
| District guilty plea |
Boone publishes a five-year timing rule for qualifying guilty-plea expungement. |
Certification + AOC-496.2; Boone currently publishes $100 per case. |
| Eligible felony conviction |
Generally no sooner than five years after sentence completion or successful probation/parole, whichever is later. |
$40 certification; AOC-496.3; $50 filing plus $250 if granted. |
| Felony not indicted |
Applicable KRS 431.076 route may be filed no sooner than six months after District Court’s decision to hold the matter for grand jury. |
AOC-497.2; no filing fee under the applicable route. |
| DUI conviction |
Boone’s local clerk publishes a 10-year waiting period from disposition for a guilty-plea DUI expungement application. |
Use the applicable conviction process and current certification. |
Eligible felony filing sequence
Order the $40 expungement certification
Do this only when ready to file because the certificate expires.
Complete AOC-496.3
Attach the certification and list agencies that may have the arrest or conviction record.
File with Boone Circuit Clerk
Pay the $50 non-refundable initial filing fee.
Wait for prosecutor review
If the prosecutor objects within 60 days, the court schedules a hearing.
Attend the hearing if ordered
Eligibility does not automatically guarantee approval.
If granted, pay the remaining $250 felony expungement fee
Installments may be allowed, but the expungement is not complete until the full amount is paid.
Keep a copy of the signed order
Kentucky distributes qualifying orders to the prosecutor, KSP, arresting agency and local jail.
Identify any additional agency within 60 days
Tell the court when another agency not in the normal distribution list should receive the order.
Recheck after processing
Boone’s local clerk advises that agencies may take up to approximately six weeks to clear records after the signed order.
An expungement removes qualifying official state records from ordinary public access. It does not automatically erase old news stories, screenshots or data previously copied by a private company.
