Eligible convictions
TBI’s expungement FAQ states that certain eligible misdemeanor and Class E felony convictions can qualify. Its current guidance identifies a $180 expungement fee plus applicable court fees/costs for the eligible-conviction process. Eligibility depends on the exact offense and current Tennessee law.
Recovery Court Renewal Act – effective July 1, 2026
Public Chapter 1061 amended Tennessee’s expungement law to create an additional route for certain otherwise eligible offenses when the person satisfies the statute’s conditions and successfully completed a certified recovery court program. The new route does not apply when the offense being expunged involves a motor vehicle and alcohol or a controlled substance.
Tennessee Courts currently warns that its general expungement information is being updated to reflect recent changes to T.C.A. §40-32-101. For a conviction or recovery-court case, verify eligibility before paying any filing or processing fee.
