Why a Utah County arrest may not appear

The booking is less than 24 hours old Public booking information is intentionally delayed.
The person was taken to another county Search the jail that actually received the arrestee.
The arresting agency released the person without county-jail booking A citation, summons or other release can still produce a court case.
The name was entered differently Try a surname, former surname, hyphen variation or different middle-name format.
The booking is older than the public web retention period Use Sheriff Records or a court record instead.
The person transferred Check another jail, Utah Department of Corrections or another agency.
The record was expunged Legally expunged government records are restricted from ordinary public access.
The case is juvenile Juvenile records have separate access restrictions.

Arresting agency matters

Do not request every arrest report from the Sheriff

Utah County Sheriff

Request Sheriff-created reports from UCSO Records.

Provo Police

Request Provo-created incident records from Provo.

Orem Police

Orem maintains its own police reports.

Lehi Police

Lehi arrests can still lead to Utah County jail bookings.

Spanish Fork Police

Use Spanish Fork for police-created reports.

Pleasant Grove Police

Municipal records remain with the municipal agency.

American Fork Police

Do not assume a jail location controls report ownership.

Utah Highway Patrol

UHP may arrest someone who is later booked into Utah County Jail.

Fast routing rule: use the Utah County booking’s arresting agency field to identify who probably owns the police report.
Official warrant search

Search and verify a Utah County warrant

Open the Utah State Warrants Search Utah County Sheriff directs the public to the statewide official warrant system. Search official Utah warrants
Search the legal name carefully Same-name warrant results require identity verification.
Save the warrant or court case number This is the strongest route into the court record.
Identify the issuing court A Utah County booking can involve Provo District Court, a county justice court or a municipal justice court.
Check later court entries Determine whether an older warrant was served, recalled or otherwise addressed.
Call Utah County warrant specialists when needed 801-851-4065 or 801-851-4034.
Warrant email: warrants@utahcounty.gov
Utah County states that in some situations a deputy may accept bail or a promise to appear, but the warrant can remain active until the person appears before the court. Do not assume payment alone automatically closes the warrant.

Paying a known warrant

Confirm the exact warrant number Do not pay using only a same-name search result.
Confirm the amount and court Use Sheriff warrant staff or the issuing court.
Use the Sheriff’s payment page only after verification Open Utah County Pay Warrants
Follow the court appearance requirement Paying or signing a promise to appear does not necessarily eliminate the obligation to appear.
Scam warning: never pay a supposed Utah County warrant through gift card, cryptocurrency or an unsolicited text link. Verify the warrant and issuing court independently.

Bail and bond

Confirm the exact amount before going to the jail

Get the full legal name and booking number Booking staff need enough information to identify the correct person.
Call Booking for the exact current amount 801-851-4210.
Ask about every charge and hold Satisfying one case does not guarantee release if another warrant, commitment or agency hold exists.
Ask which payment method applies Do not arrive with the wrong form of payment.
For credit cards, appear in person The jail states that it does not accept credit-card bail payments over the telephone and a transaction fee applies.
Bring the exact amount when paying at the jail Booking states that it needs the exact amount and does not accept loose change or personal checks.
Make cashier’s checks and money orders correctly They must be payable to The Utah County Jail.
Keep the receipt Record the booking number, court case and payment details.
Bail-verification script
I am calling about [full legal name], booking number [number]. Please confirm every active charge or warrant, the exact current bail amount for each, any holds that would prevent release and the payment method the jail can accept today.
Utah County does not recommend a particular bail-bond company. Independently verify any private bondsman, fee, collateral requirement and licensing before signing.
Release processing

Do not arrive before release paperwork is ready

Utah County’s family orientation states that releases can take approximately two to eight hours after Records receives the necessary paperwork.
Confirm the court actually ordered release An oral statement or old docket entry is not enough.
Allow paperwork to reach the jail Records staff must process the order and check the inmate’s custody record.
For a same-day court release, use the Sheriff’s standard time guidance Booking currently publishes a standard release time of about 3:15 p.m. for people who were in court that day.
Do not rely on “warrant recalled” wording alone Utah County states that release paperwork should expressly show a release by judge or ROR when appropriate.
Check for another hold or transport order The person can remain in custody for another agency or Utah State Prison transfer.
Right to counsel

Ask for a court-appointed criminal lawyer if you cannot afford one

Utah Courts states that a defendant facing possible incarceration has a right to counsel and may qualify for a court-appointed attorney when unable to afford one.
Ask for counsel at the first court appearance Tell the judge you cannot afford to hire a lawyer and want to be screened.
Complete the Declaration of Financial Status Utah Courts uses the criminal financial declaration to evaluate eligibility.
List income, assets and debts accurately The judge reviews financial eligibility.
Do not assume income slightly above the guideline automatically disqualifies you Utah Courts states the court can still consider whether you truly cannot afford representation.
Use the Utah Courts legal-help page for the current form Open Utah Criminal Legal Help
Utah County Justice Court specifically instructs defendants requesting appointed counsel to complete its Declaration of Financial Status before or for the scheduled hearing. If counsel has already been appointed, the form does not need to be completed again.
Do not discuss sensitive case facts on ordinary jail phone or video calls. Use attorney-client communication channels when speaking with defense counsel.

Correct inaccurate Utah criminal-history information

Utah BCI’s current Record Challenge fee is $20.
Get your BCI criminal history first Identify the exact entry you believe is wrong.
Compare it with the originating records Check the Utah County Sheriff or police report and final court disposition.
Obtain supporting documentation A certified dismissal, corrected judgment or agency record is stronger than a screenshot.
Complete the BCI Record Challenge Follow the current BCI instructions and pay the $20 fee.
Correct the originating source when necessary An incorrect court judgment should be addressed with the court; a police error should be addressed with the agency that created it.
Recheck connected systems Do not assume a correction instantly updates every public or private database.
Challenge versus expungement: a challenge fixes inaccurate information. Expungement legally restricts an otherwise valid qualifying record.
2026 Utah expungement

Check automatic expungement before paying for a petition

Major 2026 change: beginning January 1, 2026, people no longer file the old request form merely to ask Utah courts to identify a case for automatic expungement. Courts now identify and clear qualifying automatic cases through the statutory process.

Automatic / Clean Slate path

  • No BCI Certificate of Eligibility is required.
  • The court identifies qualifying cases.
  • Not every dismissal, misdemeanor or traffic case qualifies.
  • Processing is not necessarily immediate.

Petition-based path

  • Many cases require a BCI eligibility review.
  • A court petition is required.
  • Prosecutor/victim response periods can apply.
  • A hearing can be required.

Automatic-expungement examples

Selected current Utah timing rules
Case type Potential timing Important limitation
Acquittal Potentially within 60 days Insanity acquittals are excluded.
Dismissal with prejudice Potentially within 180 days Plea-in-abeyance completion dismissals follow different rules.
Qualifying Class B misdemeanor Generally 6 years Offense and numerical restrictions apply.
Qualifying Class C / infraction Generally 5 years All statutory requirements must be met.
Felonies, DUI, domestic-violence cases, many Class A misdemeanors, sex offenses, assault and other listed offenses generally do not qualify for the basic automatic-expungement path.

Petition-based expungement

Make sure the case is finished Fines, fees, restitution and interest generally must be paid.
Check for pending criminal cases or supervision A pending criminal case, incarceration, probation, parole or certain active protective orders can prevent eligibility.
Apply to BCI when a Certificate of Eligibility is required BCI currently charges a $65 application fee and requires fingerprints. Open BCI expungement applications
Pay certificate charges if approved BCI currently publishes a $65 fee for each qualifying conviction, plea-in-abeyance or special certificate; certain dismissal, acquittal and declination certificates have no certificate fee.
Use the certificate before it expires A BCI Certificate of Eligibility is valid for 180 days.
File in the court that decided the case If no criminal court case was filed, file in the district where the arrest occurred.
Prepare the court filing fee Current statewide fees are $150 in District Court and $135 in Justice Court. A fee waiver may be available.
Watch the objection periods The prosecutor generally has 35 days to file an objection or statement; a victim can have 60 days.
Reply within the allowed period when necessary A petitioner generally has 14 days after receiving the prosecutor’s, victim’s or AP&P response to file the applicable reply.
Attend a hearing if scheduled Be prepared to show that statutory requirements are satisfied and expungement will not harm the public interest.
Request certified copies quickly Utah Courts advises requesting certified expungement orders no later than 28 days after the court grants the order.
Traffic-only petitioned expungements can follow a different path and generally do not require a BCI Certificate of Eligibility when every offense in the case meets the statutory traffic definition.
