Troubleshooting
No Tazewell County custody result found?
The person is still being processed
A recent arrest may not appear immediately while intake work is completed.
The person was released
The live custody list is not a permanent archive of every prior booking.
The arrest happened in another county
Search the county where the person was actually booked.
The name differs
Try a former surname, alias, suffix or alternate spelling.
A citation was issued instead of detention
A court case can exist without current jail custody.
The person is now in IDOC custody
Search the Illinois Department of Corrections after a state-prison transfer.
The record was expunged or sealed
Legally restricted information may disappear from ordinary public access.
You need a historical record
Use Sheriff FOIA or the court docket rather than the live custody table.
Jail status call script
I am trying to confirm the current or recent custody status of [full legal name], age or date of birth [information]. The arrest may have occurred on [date] through [agency]. Can you confirm whether the person is still being processed, currently detained, released, transferred or listed under a different detainee ID?
Sheriff warrant lookup
Search a Tazewell County warrant—and then verify it in court
The Sheriff maintains a separate warrant table. It can display Warrant ID, name, age, warrant type, warrant charge and an amount to post when applicable.
Search the last name
Use Ctrl+F or Command+F to locate possible matches.
Save the Warrant ID
This helps distinguish multiple warrants or people with similar names.
Read the warrant type
Examples can include failure-to-appear warrants.
Read the warrant charge
Determine which underlying offense is connected with the warrant.
Do not automatically pay the displayed amount
First confirm that the warrant remains active and that a monetary amount still legally applies.
Search the Circuit Court case
Look for later entries that may show appearance, recall, quash, service or other resolution.
Do not confront or attempt to detain anyone. Warrant information can change after a court appearance or judicial order.

Official court search
Search Tazewell County criminal court records for free
Tazewell County no longer uses Judici as its official court-record search. The county directs users to its Tyler Technologies portal.
The Tazewell portal states that public court searching is free and that members of the general public do not need to register.
Select Smart Search
Smart Search is the portal tool used to locate court records.
Search the case number first
A court case number reduces same-name errors.
Otherwise search the legal name
Compare party information and event dates carefully.
Locate the criminal case
Do not mix traffic, civil or unrelated cases with the arrest being researched.
Read events chronologically
Follow first appearance, detention/release orders, motions, plea, trial and sentencing entries.
Read each count separately
One charge can be dismissed while another ends in conviction or supervision.
Use the courthouse record when remote data is incomplete
Tazewell County warns that Illinois remote-access rules can make online information more restrictive than courthouse access.

Illinois Pretrial Fairness Act
New Illinois criminal cases no longer use cash bail
Cash bail was eliminated in Illinois on September 18, 2023. In new criminal cases, the judge decides whether the defendant is released, released with conditions or detained under Illinois pretrial law.
Release
The judge can release the defendant without requiring money as a condition of release.
Conditions
The court may impose reporting, no-contact, location, monitoring or other lawful conditions.
Detention petition
The State can seek pretrial detention when Illinois law permits it.
Detention hearing
The judge determines whether the statutory requirements for detention have been met.

Any separate warrant or hold
For a 2026 arrest, do not assume that an old-style cash “bond amount” should be paid. Check the current court order first.
Legacy / applicable monetary payments
Why the Sheriff still has a bonding page
The Sheriff continues to publish a bonding procedure for cases or warrants in which a monetary payment still applies. This can include older matters and certain warrant-related situations.
First ask the court or jail whether the payment legally applies to this exact case. The existence of the Sheriff bonding page does not restore cash bail for new Illinois criminal cases.

Legal Services / Public Defender:
309-477-2252
The Public Defender represents people charged with criminal offenses carrying possible incarceration when a judge determines that appointed counsel is appropriate.
Ask for counsel at the first appearance
Tell the judge if private counsel cannot be afforded.
Provide financial information
The court determines whether the defendant qualifies.
Wait for a judicial appointment
The Public Defender cannot simply begin representation because someone calls the office.
For a person in custody, expect the representation issue early
The county says this ordinarily occurs within 48 hours of arrest for an in-custody defendant.
Call Legal Services to learn who was assigned
Family members can obtain limited non-confidential information such as assigned defender and next court setting.
Do not discuss case facts on ordinary jail communications
Personal calls, messages and visits are not confidential attorney communication.
The judge may assess a reasonable public-defender fee after considering the defendant’s ability to pay.

The Sheriff and court are better for tracing a specific local incident.
Use Access and Review for your own full Illinois transcript
Go to a participating law-enforcement/correctional facility or licensed Live Scan provider.
Open Access and Review instructions
Use fingerprints when identity matters
Fingerprint comparison is safer than matching only a name.
The Illinois Uniform Conviction Information Act permits public dissemination of conviction information. A county arrest or dismissed charge should not be treated as the same thing as a public statewide conviction result.
Record correction
Fix the source record before challenging the statewide history
Identify exactly what is wrong
Compare the Sheriff custody table, police report, Circuit Court docket and ISP transcript.
Save the disputed identifiers
Record the detainee ID, police report number and court case number.
Obtain the controlling document
A certified dismissal, judgment or amended court order is stronger than a screenshot.
Correct Sheriff data with the Sheriff
Use the records or FOIA process as appropriate.
Correct court information through the Circuit Clerk or court
Court record errors must be corrected at their source.
Complete ISP Access and Review
The fingerprint transcript includes a Record Challenge form.
Explain the exact correction
Identify the wrong entry, the correct entry and the document proving it.
Recheck all systems
Updates may reach the Sheriff, court, ISP and private databases at different times.
Correction is not expungement. Correction changes inaccurate information. Expungement or sealing restricts an otherwise accurate record when Illinois law permits.
Illinois record relief
Expunge or seal an eligible Tazewell County arrest record
Expungement
Qualifying arrest and court records are removed or destroyed according to the court order and Illinois law. Eligibility commonly depends on the case ending without a disqualifying conviction and on the type of disposition.
Sealing
The record is restricted from ordinary public access rather than destroyed. Some Illinois conviction records that cannot be expunged can still qualify for sealing.
Illinois Courts released revised statewide adult expungement and sealing forms in June 2026. Every Illinois circuit court must accept the approved statewide forms.

Tazewell County arrest records FAQ
Tazewell County IL jail and court questions answered
How do I search Tazewell County arrest records?
Use the Sheriff’s current custody lookup to identify the detainee ID, booking date, charge and arresting agency. Then search the free Tazewell County Circuit Court Tyler portal for the filed case and disposition.
How do I find a current Tazewell County inmate?
Open Inmate Lookup – Custody and search the surname. Match age, middle initial, booking date and agency before relying on the result.
How do I search active Tazewell County warrants?
Use the Sheriff’s separate warrant table. Save the Warrant ID and then verify the newest case status through the Circuit Court portal before taking action.
Is the Tazewell County court search free?
Yes. The official Tyler portal states that public court record searching is free and general public users do not need to register.
How do I request an arrest report?
If the Sheriff created it, use the Sheriff’s FOIA procedure and provide a narrow date range, incident type, involved people and report number. If a city police agency made the arrest, request the report from that agency.
Does Illinois still require cash bail for a new Tazewell County arrest?
No. Illinois eliminated cash bail for new cases on September 18, 2023. Current cases use pretrial release and detention decisions. Verify any warrant or legacy monetary payment before paying.
How do jail visits work?
Schedule through Cidnet at least 24 hours ahead. Visits are by video and last about 20 minutes. Published hours are 8–11 a.m., 1:30–4 p.m. and 6–9 p.m. daily.
What is the current inmate mailing address?
For non-legal mail use the inmate’s full name and inmate ID, Tazewell County Justice Center, Illinois, P.O. Box 247, Phoenix, MD 21131. Do not send legal mail or money to that scanning address.
How do I obtain my own Illinois criminal record?
Use Illinois State Police Access and Review with fingerprints through a participating agency or licensed Live Scan provider. ISP does not charge for Access and Review or a Record Challenge, though the fingerprint provider may charge.
Can a Tazewell County arrest be expunged or sealed?
Some cases qualify depending on the arrest, disposition and offense. Illinois Courts released revised statewide adult expungement and sealing forms in June 2026. File the appropriate forms through the circuit where the case was handled.
