Find a Las Vegas Arrest and Verify What Happened After Booking

A Las Vegas arrest can create separate police, jail and court records. The correct search depends on where the arrest happened and which agency took custody.

This guide explains CCDC inmate searches, Las Vegas City Jail, LVMPD SCOPE records, arrest reports, court cases, bail, visitation, inmate services, public defenders, statewide Nevada records and sealing.

Arrest does not equal conviction. A jail or police entry records an arrest, detention or allegation. Prosecutors may decline or change charges, and the case can later be dismissed or end in acquittal. Always read the court disposition.
Multiple jails

Las Vegas-area arrests do not all go to CCDC.

Local SCOPE record

LVMPD background check currently costs $13.

Report copies

Allow up to 10 business days after filing.

CCDC visits

Two 25-minute visits weekly for inmates in good standing.

District records

Most District Court records from 1990 forward are online.

Which Las Vegas system contains the record?

CCDC / CITY JAIL Where is the person now?

Use the detention search for inmate ID, custody status, housing and booking information.

Do not assume every LVMPD arrest goes to CCDC.
LVMPD SCOPE What is on my local history?

A SCOPE background check covers arrests and incidents maintained within LVMPD jurisdiction.

Current published fee: $13.
LVMPD RECORDS What did police report?

Request the arrest report, incident report, CAD information or identified supporting records.

Use the precise report-request procedure.
COURT CASE What happened to the charges?

Justice, District and Municipal courts maintain different Las Vegas criminal matters.

The court disposition is more important than the booking charge.
NEVADA REPOSITORY What appears statewide?

The Nevada Criminal History Repository maintains fingerprint-supported Nevada criminal-history information.

It is not an unrestricted public people-search database.
Most reliable sequence: Identify the arresting jurisdiction → locate the jail booking → save the inmate and case numbers → request the police record only when needed → verify every filed charge in court.

Critical jurisdiction check

Do not search only Clark County Detention Center

LVMPD identifies four primary detention systems in Las Vegas and surrounding communities. The correct facility depends on the arrest location and jurisdiction.
Las Vegas-area detention locator
Facility When to check Phone Next action
Clark County Detention Center Many LVMPD and Clark County criminal bookings. 702-671-3900 Search CCDC custody and save the inmate ID.
Las Vegas City Jail City-jurisdiction custody and qualifying municipal matters. 702-229-6444, option 3 Check the city inmate search when CCDC has no result.
North Las Vegas Detention Center Arrest occurred within North Las Vegas jurisdiction. 702-633-1400 Use North Las Vegas custody search.
Henderson Detention Center Arrest occurred within Henderson jurisdiction. 702-267-4652 Search Henderson custody rather than CCDC.
LVMPD local criminal history

Get your Las Vegas SCOPE background check

Current LVMPD SCOPE fee: $13. The record covers arrests and incidents within LVMPD jurisdiction rather than every Nevada arrest.
Use SCOPE for the correct purpose LVMPD lists personal use, employment, housing, immigration, adoption, military enlistment and record sealing among common purposes.
Request your own record A SCOPE background check is generally released to the person who is the subject of the record.
Prepare valid unexpired photo ID Accepted examples include a state driver license or ID, passport, military ID, permanent resident card or qualifying matricula card.
Choose online, mail or in-person service LVMPD provides several request routes. Open SCOPE background-check instructions
Pay the $13 charge Published payment methods include eligible cards, cash, cashier’s check and money order depending on the request channel.
Use authorization when collecting another person’s SCOPE LVMPD requires an original notarized authorization from the record subject plus a copy of that person’s current photo identification.
Do not treat SCOPE as statewide Henderson and North Las Vegas criminal history is not automatically included.

What Las Vegas arrest-record fields actually mean

Do not confuse booking data with a court finding
Field What it identifies What it does not prove Next action
Inmate ID The person inside the detention system. Guilt or final charge. Use for jail services and identity checks.
Booking date When detention processing occurred. When the alleged offense occurred. Compare with arrest and court filing dates.
Arresting agency The agency responsible for the arrest. CCDC wrote the police report. Request the report from that agency.
Booking charge An allegation entered during intake. What prosecutors formally filed. Read the Justice, District or Municipal Court case.
Bail amount A release amount associated with a case. Paying it clears every hold. Confirm every case with Pretrial Services.
Hold Another court or jurisdiction may control release. The displayed local bail controls custody. Ask which agency owns the hold.
Release The end of a custody event. Dismissal or acquittal. Check the final court disposition.
Mugshot An intake photograph. Identity alone or guilt. Match name, birth data and official numbers.
Identity safeguard

Verify the person before relying on a Las Vegas record

Full legal name matches
Middle name, alias or suffix is consistent
Date of birth or age matches
Arrest date matches the known event
Arresting jurisdiction matches
Inmate ID matches another official source
Court case follows the same incident
Police event number matches when available
Minimum verification rule: Match at least two independent identifiers before sending money, publishing an allegation or treating the record as belonging to a specific individual.

Nevada Public Records Act

Use LVMPD public records only for an identifiable existing record

Nevada public-record law generally concerns existing records prepared, used or maintained by government. LVMPD states that requests should identify records that already exist; the agency does not have to create new data merely to answer a question.
Examples of identifiable records
  • Arrest report
  • Incident crime report
  • Body-worn-camera recording
  • Voluntary statement
  • Existing aggregate data
Communications records
  • CAD notes
  • 911 or 311 recordings
  • Police radio audio
  • Calls-for-service searches
Do not submit vague questions

Ask for the existing document, recording or dataset instead of asking the records clerk to investigate or explain what happened.

Important routing rule: Involved parties, attorneys, government agencies, insurers and people seeking their own incident reports are instructed to use the Records and Fingerprint Bureau process. General public-record requests use the Public Records Unit where applicable.

State criminal history

Request your Nevada fingerprint-supported criminal history

Nevada’s central criminal-history record is not a general unrestricted public name-search tool for another person. Dissemination to someone other than the subject is regulated by Nevada and federal law.
Request your own Nevada history The record is based on fingerprints submitted by Nevada criminal-justice agencies and corresponding dispositions.
Know the historical coverage Nevada State Police states that the personal repository history is based on arrest fingerprints and dispositions from 1987 forward. For older records, contact the arresting agency.
Use the electronic process when inside Nevada An electronic Nevada criminal-history request is available only from inside the state. Open Nevada criminal-history requests
Use the manual process from outside Nevada The state publishes a separate out-of-state manual request route.
For paper submission, prepare rolled ten-print fingerprints Use a law-enforcement agency or authorized fingerprint service.
Review every arrest and disposition Compare the state entry with the appropriate Las Vegas court disposition.
Allow the state processing period Nevada State Police states that requests are processed within 30 calendar days; mailed requests require additional delivery time.

Nevada record sealing

Seal an eligible Las Vegas arrest or criminal case

Nevada calls the process record sealing, not expungement. A sealed record is removed from ordinary information sources and access is substantially restricted, but the record is not physically destroyed.

First determine which court controls the case

Justice or District Court

Clark County District Attorney provides a record-sealing stipulation process for qualifying matters.

Municipal Court

City-prosecuted municipal matters require the municipal/city process rather than the Clark County DA stipulation route.

Multiple Clark County courts

The Eighth Judicial District Court can be used for appropriate petitions involving multiple Justice/District Court matters within Clark County.

Obtain your current Nevada Criminal History Report Clark County DA currently requires a current verified Nevada repository history with the petition.
Consider obtaining your LVMPD SCOPE A SCOPE is no longer statutorily required by the Clark County DA stipulation process, but it can help identify arrests and citations accurately.
Get missing final dispositions Every arrest or citation listed should have an accurate final result.
Check statutory waiting periods and exclusions Some records cannot be sealed and waiting periods depend on the offense and outcome.
Prepare the Petition and Order Include the arrest date, arresting agency, charge and final disposition for every record requested.
List every known record custodian The sealing order should identify the agencies and courts that possess the records.
Submit the stipulation packet to the Clark County DA when appropriate Use the current District Attorney instructions. Open Clark County record-sealing instructions
Follow up if the DA has not responded The DA’s guideline advises following up after approximately three to four weeks when no response has been received.
File approved documents with the correct court Ask the court clerk about the current filing fee and required copies.
Obtain certified copies of the signed order Keep enough copies for all agencies identified in the sealing order.
Serve each named record holder Unless the court orders otherwise, the petitioner is responsible for distributing the sealing order.
Verify removal after processing Nevada State Police warns that the complete process can take months and outside-state systems may not automatically follow a Nevada sealing order.

Common reasons a Clark County sealing request can fail

Required waiting period is incomplete
An active case or warrant exists
Dismissal without prejudice is still within the limitation period
A statutorily non-sealable offense is involved
Not every arrest or conviction was listed
Municipal charges were incorrectly placed in the county DA process
