Booking charge ≠ conviction. The Sacramento Sheriff’s inmate system specifically warns that charges can change as a person moves through the judicial process. Always verify the Superior Court case before treating a booking allegation as the final charge.

Sacramento Superior Court opened the Tani G. Cantil-Sakauye Sacramento County Courthouse at 500 G Street in April 2026. Criminal records services are now available there, while the Lorenzo Patiño Hall of Justice at 651 I Street continues to house Criminal Departments 60–63 alongside the Main Jail.

How a Sacramento arrest becomes a court record
Arresting agency creates its record
Sacramento Sheriff, Sacramento Police or another law-enforcement agency documents the incident.
County jail booking
The Sheriff creates custody data and associates the person with an X-Reference number.
Prosecutor filing decision
The filed charges can differ from what initially appeared at booking.
Arraignment
The defendant is advised of the formal charges and counsel/bail issues are addressed.

Criminal-offender history, ordinary mugshots and many law-enforcement investigative records are restricted by California law. Submitting a CPRA request does not make an otherwise confidential record public.

At RCCC, the Sheriff’s current published procedure states that bail bonds from licensed bail bondsmen are accepted 24/7 except during the facility’s 6:00–8:00 a.m. and 6:00–8:00 p.m. restricted windows.

A person released from the Main Jail or RCCC within the last 30 days is generally not allowed to visit without the required facility authorization. Certain people with prior state-prison felony confinement also require prior consent under the Sheriff’s rules.

Female housing, protective custody, administrative segregation and special treatment/mental-health populations use separate RCCC schedules. Confirm the inmate’s housing through the live inmate record or call RCCC before traveling.

Health staff cannot disclose private physical or mental-health treatment information to family or friends without the inmate’s authorization. The inmate can complete a Release of Information form to designate approved recipients.

Know where to pick up an RCCC inmate on a scheduled release
For a scheduled RCCC release, the Sheriff currently directs the pickup person to report to the gatehouse before 5:00 a.m. and show a driver’s license.
Recheck custody the night before
Court holds or other cases can change a projected release.
Arrive at the RCCC gatehouse before 5:00 a.m.
Bring your driver’s license.
Expect scheduled pickup releases between about 5:00 and 6:00 a.m.
Follow staff instructions at the gatehouse.
If the person has no ride
The Sheriff’s bus transports the released person to the Main Jail for release after approximately 5:30 a.m.
The Sheriff’s Office specifically discourages members of the public from offering rides to other people being released from RCCC.
Remaining inmate-account funds are currently issued on a NUMI MasterCard debit card at release rather than as cash or a check.

Sacramento County Public Defender represents people who qualify for court-appointed counsel and cannot afford a private criminal-defense lawyer.

California Penal Code §1203.4 does not erase the record
Sacramento Superior Court explicitly explains that California does not have a true expungement process through Penal Code §1203.4. A granted dismissal changes the case disposition but does not destroy or seal the arrest and conviction records.
